Sportsmanship

As a young child, I spent many days with my Uncle Tom, an US Army veteran, who was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed fishing in all seasons and bow hunting in Michigan and Colorado. He was instrumental in teaching me the joys and patience of fishing. As a child I would always ask for Uncle Tom’s fish fry for my special birthday dinner.

My husband comes from a long line of sportsmen who enjoyed duck hunting and fly fishing. My favorite time with them was shooting clays thrown by hand when one went sideways and I dusted the shot surprising my father-in-law and impressing my husband. I’m also thankful for all the hours spent with my father who taught me how to shoot and I thoroughly enjoyed our time together practicing with targets. This summer my daughter was gifted an opportunity to go to the shooting range with friends and we enjoyed an amazing afternoon at the indoor range with our generous and skilled shooting aficionado friends Ellen and Dave.

As a school board member who is committed to school safety and security, I fully support having professional Police Resource Officers (PRO), or School Resource Officers (SRO) from our municipal police departments in partnership with the district. These armed professionals play a crucial role in education of our students, building relationships, and most importantly are on the front line when investigating any type of threat to our students and staff. We are grateful for their continued presence in our buildings.
