Safe and Fair Elections

Elections are the cornerstone of our democracy. That’s why it is critical, especially during times of crisis, that our elections are held in a manner whereby each Wisconsin resident can cast their ballot in a safe and fair manner. We are grateful to our Clerks and their staff for working so hard to carry out our recent election with the changing landscape of the Coronavirus. They were able to process an unprecedented number of absentee ballots and navigate the confusion of changing positions on the part of government leaders. Going forward we must be prepared for future elections during the Coronavirus pandemic and we should learn from this experience in order to make necessary adjustments to our system going forward. I would advocate for a review of the process with the Wisconsin Elections Commission to make recommendations on any corrections or updates to our systems and process for any future elections, including state primaries, special elections, and the general election on November 3rd, 2020. While we have the right process in place under normal circumstances, lost absentee ballots and 4+ hour waiting time to cast a ballot are unacceptable.
